It is difficult to put into words how sorry we are to announce the passing of Dewey
Brown. The man Shane Thompson called “Big Dad” had more of an impact on Shane, as
a man, and Shane’s Rib Shack, as a concept, than most people will ever know – and
more than we could ever express here.
“You only get a good reputation once – so you better make the most of it.”
-- Dewey “Big Dad” Brown
|
Dewey Brown served his country in World War II, served his community as City Manager
and Chief of Police of Avondale Estates, GA, and served his family by leading by
example. He and wife Peggy were married for 66 years.
Raised by Big Dad since he was 14, Shane has often said that it was his privilege
to learn from a man who used his influence and standing in the community to benefit
others, without expecting anything in return.
It’s because of Big Dad’s advice to “do what you love, and do it better than anyone
else” that Shane’s Rib Shack is here today. Long hours spent with his grandfather,
barbecuing at family events and perfecting the secret family sauce, is what Shane
loved to do. It’s because of his grandfather that he does it better than anyone
else.
This isn’t meant as a tribute so much as it is for you to get to know the man who
meant so much to all of us. The real tribute to Big Dad is in the way we
conduct our business, treating our guests like family.
